The future of Orinda Magic in the form of the Gold Team also had mixed results in the Spring but look forward to a memorable Summer as they cope with the loss of two long-time teammates, Alejandra Cephas(to Black Magic) and Jessica Mitz(to the Blue Team) and prepare to face the challenge of playing at the High School level as the new Red Team. The team hopes to be a scoring threat @ each position and will feature quick and seasoned guard play with Mariah Seals, Layla Stebbins, Jonae Gonzales and Tori McGovern. Defensive specialists, Annemarie Del Bene and Madison Burroughs will harass opposing offenses while 3pt threat Bailey Russ and post presence Briah Davis will bang inside for rebounds.

Team News:

8/21/08 NEW-Summer Reflections- The 2008 summer brought many challenges for the Red team. Looking back, Magic is very proud of and grateful for the hard work and determination demonstrated by the young players of the Red team. Fighting through injuries and constant roster changes Red was still able to play some very competitive basketball. The six constants on the roster continued to make steady contributions and pulled out a nail-biting 1pt victory to end the summer on a winning note.

7/25/08 NEW-Orinda Magic Red was joined by senior forward Stacey Rosenzwieg as they competed in the EBX Summer in the City tourney.

7/7/08-The 3rd game of the EOT Tourney found the Red Team hitting their stride against Cal Swish San Diego White. Senior guard Watta Grace continued her aggressive and physical play alongside Arienne Johnson’s defense and Krissy Tran’s dazzling passes and 3pt shooting. Gina Del Bene added 4 steals and 10 pts without missing a field goal and Alyssa Johanson put up 15 pts with 8 rebounds in her finest performance of the tournament only to be outdone by senior Sarah Wade. Halfway through the first half Wade, a center, stroked a three without hesitation. She was 1 for 1 beyond the arc on her way to a triple double, recording 18 rebounds, 10 blocks, and 15 pts. Magic closed out the game with lock-down defensive play winning 56-46.

7/7/08-In the 2nd day of competition at the EOT Tourney the Orinda Magic Red faced Utah Sky White in a back and forth game that saw two Magic players fall to injury. Starting point Stephanie Palomino and junior point Anna Nguyen were hurt on near identical plays, as each drove aggressively to the basket. Senior guard Krissy Tran and senior center Sarah Wade picked up the slack. Tran posted 13 points shooting 43% from 3 and adding 4 steals while Wade gathered up 11 rebounds and 6 blocks in a losing effort.

7/6/08 -On the first day of play at the End of the Trail Tournament in Oregon, Orinda Magic Red encountered stiff competition in the form of Oregon club Clutch Players. After falling behind 23 pts in the first half, Red rallied back behind sophomore forward Terri Powell to cut the lead to single digits before being overwhelmed 51-34.
