Each year, Orinda Magic invites female basketball players ages 10-17, who live in the California Bay Area, to try out for the OM teams, which are divided by age. The teams are certified by the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and, once formed, will play in tournaments both locally and nationwide throughout the spring and summer, competing against other AAU teams.

Once the teams are formed, the players must pay a "membership fee" for each season. Some scholarships are available, and are awarded on a case by case basis.  Separate seasons take place in the spring and the summer, and an additional fall season for the younger teams. Some players will be accepted to the program as reserves. Reserves will practice with the team and have the option of buying a uniform, but will not be on the official roster. The "membership fee" is used to cover the cost of tournament entry fees, gym rental fees for practices, equipment, aau cards and coach reimbursement. Some coaches are paid a small stipend, but volunteer most, if not all of their time. During the season coaches spend approximately 15-20 hours per week at OM practices and games, not including travel time.

Code of Conduct:

The goal of Orinda Magic coaches is to provide a consistently positive atmosphere where girls who participate can learn individual and team basketball concepts, meet new friends, and experience success as both an individual and as part of a team. As representatives of Orinda Magic all OM players are required to treat teammates, coaches, officials, and opponents with respect and compassion. All OM family members are expected to contribute positively to the basketball environment and to conduct themselves in a respectable manner. OM coaches teach not only basketball skills, but also good sportsmanship, leadership, and working and succeeding in groups.
