2011 Spring Recap:
Orinda Magic has been blessed to add a 5th grade team this year, and what a team! Lead by the exemplary coaching of Chiam Bismillah, Landon Edmond, and Brian Lozano the 5th graders tore their way through the MVP league finishing as Champions in the 5th/6th grade division in their first year in participation. Having tested their caliber in MVP, the team moved on to the Spring AAU circuit. After some early jitters the girls hit their stride and finished the Spring with two championships in a row. Their first AAU championship was won at the 3rd annual Hirashima Classic, named for Coach Darrell Hirashima, Sr. – Founder of Orinda Magic. Then they traveled to Nevada to compete against teams from across the Western U.S. at the annual Memorial Day Tournament held in Reno. Again, some early jitters stymied their bid for a gold bracket placement, but the team made the best of their situation in the silver bracket winning three straight games by double figures to come home with a Championship in their first ever travel tournament.
Congratulations to all the girls on the team as well as the hard-working coaches, and a special thanks to all our families for their support in making this all possible.Orinda Black Magic ended the summer session on a winning note as they took home the championship @ the EBX Summer in the City Tournament, Open Division. Congratulations to the team and their coach, Steve Pezzola! They battled their way through a tough season full of injuries and finish with a well-deserved championship.
