Orinda Magic was founded in April of 2000 by Darrell Hirashima, Sr. and Darrell Hirashima, Jr. At the time, Darrell, Sr.  was in the middle of what would end up being a historic coaching tenure at Miramonte High School in Orinda, CA. Helped by his aforementioned son and his daughter Trisha Hirashima, Coach Darrell poured his Heart and Soul into coaching basketball. Before passing away in late 2008, Coach Darrell built Miramonte Girls Basketball and Orinda Magic into Nationally Recognized programs. Miramonte, under new stewardship, has continued to improve and has built upon that foundation and new faces started a new wave of success powered by dedicated coaching and amazingly talented players that would have made Darrell beam with pride and joy. Orinda Magic has continued as one of the few remaining Grassroots Basketball teams in the Bay Area, serving all levels of age and skill. Following the loss of Coach Darrell, Darrell Jr., Trisha and the youngest son, Dustin continued their father's legacy with the help of close friend, Stephen Pezzola. Coach Pezzola assumed leadership of the Black Team in 2010. Coach Pezzola and Coach Dustin have spearheaded the program for the last 10 years as well as working at Salesian High School, where Coach Pezzola built a Nationally Ranked perennial state contender.  Now a new star is rising the coaching ranks as Cassandra Re begins her Inaugural season as Head Coach of the Black Team. After many years coaching younger teams Coach Cassie has led HS teams to tremendous success the last 2 seasons as well as lent excellent support to our other teams as a mentor and assistant. Coach Pezzola will be lending himself to WCE basketball as we explore a loose affiliation with the Under Armour sponsored basketball club.

After 20 years of teams Orinda Magic looks back with love on all the wonderful players and families that have come through our doors. As we start the 2020 season we look forward to the hope of another 20 years of helping Bay Area athletes learn to love Basketball!
